Removing Liner from Bottle Caps?
You know that bottle cap pendant I showed here a while back? Terri just wrote me to ask if there's an easy way to remove the plastic liner. She said, "I am making some bottlecap pins and taking that plastic liner off is so hard! I have tried to boil them off and that didn't work."
It's a good question -- unfortunately one that I don't know a good answer for. I looked online and found this PCCrafts.com article, which recommends boiling, using an embossing gun, or heating it with a coffee pot burner. Terri's tried boiling it. And I nearly burned my little fingers trying to pry the liner out after heating it with an embossing gun. In the end, I just ended up leaving my liner in and working around it.
Does anybody have suggestions for an easy way to remove the bottle cap liner?

Hello,
You need to boil them for at least 4 or 5 minutes. The new ones you buy at craft stores work the best.Pull the liner out with a pair of tweezer while still warm.Hold the cap with a pair of jewerly pliersin the other. This works for me every time.

Thanks for the feedback, Trina... betcha we just weren't boiling it for long enough. Sounds like you've worked out a good way to keep from burning your fingers, too. I'll give it a try.

Oh, what a delightful blog, glad that I found you.
I've had success removing the line from bottle caps heating the cap with a heat gun to soften it, and then pry it out with a dental tool.
The dental tool I use is flat on the end with a sort of chisel on the end and it seems to work best on newer caps, rather than vintage.
Hope this helps :)
